MISSOURI LAW ENFORCEMENT
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS |

| You
may be aware that licensed peace officers in Missouri are mandated to
receive continuing education training, but did you know there are
additional requirements: |

- RACIAL
PROFILING - Beginning
January 1, 2003, every peace or reserve officer with the authority to
enforce motor vehicle or traffic laws shall obtain at least one credit
hour of continuing education training regarding racial profiling each
calendar year. To meet this requirement, in-service racial profiling
training courses must be pre-approved by POST or must be delivered by
an Approved Provider.

- FIREARMS
- A
minimum of four hours of some type of Firearms Skill Development
training must be completed every three year reporting period.

HAZARDOUS
MATERIALS - OSHA
Regulation - 1910.120(q)(8)(i)
Those employees who are trained in accordance with
paragraph (q)(6) of this section shall receive annual refresher
training of sufficient content and duration to maintain their
competencies, or shall demonstrate competency in those areas at least
yearly. This is for the Awareness Level which is a basic academy
course in Missouri..

- CORE
CURRICULA AREAS - Each
officer shall complete a minimum of four hours in all four core curricula areas. The core curricula areas are identified as:
Legal
Studies
Interpersonal Perspectives
Technical Studies
Skill Development

- POST
APPROVED PROVIDER - A
minimum of twenty-four hours must come from a source identified as a
POST Approved Provider (i.e. licensed training centers or
organizations that have obtained a POST control number)
